SECOND TAKE

Contemporary Romance

One night shattered the childhood friendship Evy and Caleb thought was indestructible. After seven years of silence, Evy finds herself spiraling from a broken engagement and desperate to talk to the one person she knows she shouldn’t call. Little does she know, Caleb never stopped loving the girl next door—or hoping for a ceasefire. When reuniting turns into picking up where they left off, history seems poised to repeat itself. Instead, they make a pact: protect their friendship above all else.

New to Washington, D.C., Evy enlists Caleb as her tour guide. They explore the city together, rebuilding what was fractured between them, and Evy rediscovers her long-forgotten passion for photography. As her feelings for Caleb grow, she must decide: will fear hold her back again, or will she fight for the life—and love—she’s always wanted?

Because love, like photography, sometimes requires a second take.

ABOUT EMILY KING

My hometown is DeLand, Florida, a small town just outside of Daytona Beach. Growing up, I loved art and science in equal measure. Fiction and photography were as important as chemistry and anatomy. Science won out as a career, but reading and creative pursuits remained my treasured pastimes.

My medical aspirations were fueled by my battle with Crohn’s disease in college. After obtaining a master’s degree from The George Washington University in D.C., I became a Physician Assistant. I have practiced in gastroenterology ever since, helping others who share my disease. In 2019, I married my high school sweetheart and moved to Roanoke, Virginia, where we live with our rescue cat, Murphy.

After dreaming of writing a romance novel for years, it was ultimately a character in a book (Fizzy from The True Love Experiment) who inspired me to type my first words. Once the characters in my head had free rein, their love story poured out of me, interweaving with my Crohn’s experience and my passion for both art and science into a story that’s uniquely mine to tell.

SECOND TAKE is my debut novel.
